Today, marriage has changed dramatically compared to the marriage of Nora and Torvald in Ibsen's A Doll's House. For instance, it is very uncommon and bizarre for someone to call their spouse a childish or dehumanizing name. Plus, if a spouse was being called names that are meant to demean, make fun of, or dehumanize, then that spouse would not have to be like Nora and just take all of Torvalds comments. If standing up for oneself doesn't work, then one can actually report, or tell someone what is going on and get help. Another characteristic of the relationships in today's society is the depth of that relationship. People don't just get married and then act like acquaintances toward each other. They have serious talks, a deep relationship, and sometimes fights. These characteristics show that the couple really care about each other and want the best for each other.
